Everyone has their tried and true, go-to workout clothing. Personally, I’ve been wearing Under Armour sports bras and RBX leggings for years. I’ve tried LuluLemon, Athleta, Nike…you name it, I’ve tried it. That is, until I found Zyia Athletic Wear. Zyia is, by far, the most comfortable workout gear I’ve had the pleasure to try in recent years. Being a Personal Trainer, I basically live in athletic/workout gear and I can honestly say I have finally found my brand.
In today’s market, you can go right to Amazon and buy “Any Brand” black sports bra for $15 and have it in 48 hours. I get that, I truly do. As a matter of fact, you can probably buy a different black sports bra for every day of the week on Amazon for the price of some of the more expensive brands. However, that “Any Brand” black sports bra might fall apart after a couple washes or even a tough workout with a bunch of Burpees! Sometimes it is totally worth it to spend a little money on a few well designed pieces of workout gear that will hold up and get you through those crazy Peloton or Crossfit days.
Athletic wear/workout gear doesn’t have to be just for the gym these days. Most of us run errands in our Athleisure or pick the kids up from school and/or playdates. Heck, I’ll even go to brunch with my girlfriends in leggings. There’s just something about a cute outfit that helps to get us moving and out of the house. I don’t know about you but I just feel so much better if I can be comfortable and cute at the same time. From great matching sets to warm and cozy sweaters and hoodies, you’re going to fall in love with this brand!
Most of the fabrics that Zyia uses are 4-way stretch fabric to help with stretch ability, compression, form, fit and comfort. Zyia also understands that there is so much more than that to good activewear and is always improving and investing in innovation and technology in it’s fabrics. ~~ Zyia website
Ok, enough about the clothing, how about footwear to get the most out of your workouts? With SO many wonderful brands out there, how do you go about choosing the best footwear?
First, and most important, you need to choose a “Sneaker” (or Tennis/Gym shoe) based on the specific activity you plan to perform. For instance, you don’t want to wear a shoe designed for running to play Basketball. You need to have a shoe designed for Basketball to support your feet and ankles during all the direction changes, stops and starts. For days you’re headed to the Gym/Crossfit/Group Exercise class make sure you’re wearing a Cross Trainer (or even a Lifting shoe for Squat days). For all the walkers & runners out there, not sure which brand would work best for you? Head to your local running store! Most running stores have Treadmills so the professionals can analyze your gait and point you in the right direction.
Personally, I love my Asics Gel Kayano running shoes. I have a high arch and they help me to not feel flat while I’m out on a run. They are a bit pricey @ $150-$160 but you can certainly find last year’s models on Amazon for less than $100. I have tons of clients who LOVE their Brooks running shoes but the one that is blowing everyone’s minds right now are the HOKA running shoes. Sure, they look a little goofy with the giant soles but, I’m telling you, people are going crazy for these shoes right now!
For my Cross trainers/lifting shoes, I am a bit partial to the Reebok Nano sneakers. The toe box is nice and roomy and the foot is flat for those workouts when Burpees are on the menu! I’ve had a few pair and they never disappoint. I have noticed people at my gym love the “No Bull” Cross trainers too. I can’t say that I’ve tried them yet ($150) but everyone seems to like these as well.
Whichever brand you decide to try, please be sure to do your research first! Wearing the wrong shoe is an easy way to get Shin Splints and Plantar Fasciitis so please do not take it lightly. Get the right shoe!
